HYDROGEN DESTROY OF THE OIL AND GAS PIPELINES AND FACILITIES

 

Background

Pipeline, refinery and facilities reliability assurance is a highly relevant problem which is complicated by presence of aggressive media, such as hydrogen sulfide, in the production fluid. The mechanism of cracks formation under the action of hydrogen sulfide and methods of the remaining lifetime estimation are known, but do not take into account stress state, mechanical embrittlement and aging. System approach use is necessary to solve this problem.

Aims and Objectives

To estimate the relation between characteristics of the hydrogen sulfide media and destruction of oil and gas pipelines and facilities.

Methods

Embrittlement and aging in the area of corrosion crack are estimated by means of experimental studies, analysis of the experimental data of other scientific institutions and by means of Arrenius law.

Results

1. There are established the main mechanistic factors leading to the metal embrittlement.

2. There are established the analytical dependencies for estimation of embrittlement on the stress state stability factor.

3. Embrittlement and aging in the area of corrosion crack are estimated.

4. The formula of estimation of nitrogen concentration depending on the stress state stability factor is obtained.

5. Corrosion-mechanical cracks formation principles accounting the hydrogen and mechanistic factors of embrittlement and local mechanochemical corrosion are established and justified.

6. There are offered the formula of remaining lifetime calculation for pipelines and facilities, working under the hydrogen action.
